Vodacom Has 2.6 million IoT Connections On Its Network

Vodacom, South Africa’s largest mobile phone operator, has 2.6 million Internet of Things (IoT) cconnections on its network as at 30 September 2016.

The company, which is owned by British mobile phone giant Vodafone, announced on Monday that IoT connections increased 27.7% to 2.6 million.

Vodacom added that its IoT revenue was up 17.1 percent.

IoT, previously machine-to-machine, is the remote wireless interchange between two or more predefined devices or a central station without direct relationship with an end customer, in order to support a specific business process or product.

Our smartphones, tablets, laptops, and even refrigerators make up the Internet of Things. In fact, any device which is connected to the internet makes up the Internet of Things.

The Internet of Things has grown into a powerful shaping force for both our personal and professional lives. Throughout the past two decades, technological innovation has changed the face of humanity unlike any other period in history, and the sector continues to expand and re-shape how we see entertainment and business.
